MY FIRST
Sometimes it becomes a verse.
Other times, a page filled with color.
Alicia Paris is a young Costa Rican writer and artist. Growing up, she traveled and discovered other cultures, experiences that sparked her interest in visual arts, literature, languages, music and food.
She discovered poetry in third grade and returned to it in secondary school. In seventh grade, she began writing for herself: a way to explore her emotions and make sense of what she felt. Before putting together her first book, she had already written 51 poems.
At 15, she selected 22 of them for A Quiet Devotion, her debut collection. Her words and illustrations share the same impulse: to make room for what so often stays inside.
Discover her voice
A little universe of emotions.
A collection of 22 poems in English about growing up, asking questions, discovering love and finding your own voice. Music, art, sports and everyday life intertwine with emotions we do not always know how to name.
Alicia’s illustrations accompany the verses, turning the book into a journey through both words and images.
A journey from the world outside to the world within.
The passions, everyday challenges and questions that come when your mind refuses to fall asleep.
LIFE, AS IT FEELSFirst crushes, butterflies and everything you write, even when you never send it.
WHAT REMAINS UNSAIDThe love we imagine through films, shows and dreams. Its expectations, its shades and its questions.
LOVE, UNEDITEDLittle windows into A Quiet Devotion.
Selected excerpts, in their original English.
Every color a different emotion,
every hue a different thought.
Every stroke showing devotion,
devotion that can’t be taught.

“And to anyone who has ever felt misunderstood,
I hope these pages remind you that someone,
somewhere, has felt the same way too.”FROM THE DEDICATION OF A QUIET DEVOTION · ALICIA PARIS
